Team News: Injured Wes Brown replaced by Billy Jones ahead of Wear-Tyne derby

Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat makes three changes to his side ahead of the Wear-Tyne derby at the Stadium of Light as Wes Brown is ruled out through injury.

Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat has made three changes to his side ahead of Sunday's derby against Newcastle United at the Stadium of Light.

Wes Brown's knee injury means that he is replaced in the Black Cats defence by Billy Jones.

Meanwhile Jack Rodwell is out of the squad in place of Lee Cattermole, who is back from a two-match suspension, and Anthony Reveillere drops to the bench to make room for Santiago Vergini.

Magpies boss John Carver makes just the one change in his starting XI as Jonas Gutierrez replaces Vurnon Anita, who is named among the substitutes.

Sunderland: Pantilimon, Jones, van Aanholt, O'Shea, Vergini, Cattermole, Gomez, Larsson, Fletcher, Wickham, Defoe
Subs: Bridcutt, Johnson, Reveillere, Graham, Coates, Buckley, Mannone

Newcastle: Krul, Taylor, Janmaat, Williamson, Colback, Sissoko, Gutierrez, Gouffran, Ameobi, Cabella, Perez
Subs: Elliot, Anita, Abeid, Kemen, Obertan, Riviere, Armstrong
