Manchester United are reportedly cooling their interest in appointing England boss Gareth Southgate as Erik ten Hag's successor.

Manchester United have reportedly cooled their interest in England manager Gareth Southgate.

The 53-year-old is preparing for his fourth major tournament as England boss after previously leading his country at the 2018 World Cup, Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

England are just over a month away from kicking off their Euro 2024 campaign, but that has not stopped Southgate's future from becoming the topic of speculation.

With his contract set to expire at the end of the year, Southgate has emerged as a potential managerial target for Man United.

Southgate is said to have close links with new Man United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS director of sport Dave Brailsford.

Man United to turn focus away from Southgate

Despite being linked with the Red Devils, Southgate has insisted that he is focused on the upcoming European Championships in Germany.

With Southgate concentrating on his current job, Football Insider are now reporting that Man United are likely to consider alternative targets.

The report claims that Man United will hold no negotiations with Southgate until after England have completed their Euro 2024 campaign.

With the tournament set to end in mid-July, Man United are seemingly keen to consider other candidates who could start at an earlier date.

Tuchel remains favourite to succeed Ten Hag

The club's hierarchy still have to decide whether to continue with Ten Hag or part ways with the Dutchman at the end of the season.

Ten Hag has overseen a disappointing campaign, but could still salvage silverware in the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel has emerged as the frontrunner to replace Ten Hag, while Sporting Lisbon's Ruben Amorim and Graham Potter are believed to be on the club's shortlists.

There has been speculation suggesting that Tuchel's representatives have already held talks about the role, but the German recently refused those rumours, stating that he has held no discussions with any potential employers.
