Erling Braut Haaland breaks the all-time record for the most goals in a single Premier League season after scoring his 35th of the campaign in Manchester City's 3-0 win over West Ham United.

Erling Braut Haaland has broken the all-time record for the most goals scored in a single Premier League season after netting his 35th goal of the campaign in Manchester City's 3-0 victory over West Ham United on Wednesday night.

The 22-year-old has already broken a plethora of records in his debut season for the Citizens, surpassing Mohamed Salah's record tally of 32 goals in a 38-game campaign with a strike in the 4-1 win over Arsenal last week.

Haaland then netted his 50th goal in all competitions when he found the net in City's 2-1 victory against Fulham last weekend, and he has now written his name in the history books once again with a landmark goal at the Etihad Stadium against the Hammers.

After Nathan Ake had opened the scoring for City four minutes into the second half, Jack Grealish played Haaland through on goal before the Norwegian chipped his record-breaking goal over Lukasz Fabianksi to double City's advantage in the 70th minute.

Phil Foden then fired a deflected strike into the bottom corner five minutes from time to wrap up the three points for Pep Guardiola's side, who have climbed above Arsenal to the top of the Premier League table with a game in hand.

Haaland now holds the all-time Premier League record for the most goals scored in a single season, with his 35th strike seeing him surpass the previous record of 34 goals held by both Andy Cole and Alan Shearer.

Cole netted 34 times for Newcastle United in the 1993-94 season, before Shearer matched that scoring feat the following season to help Blackburn Rovers with the Premier League title.

Both Cole and Shearer scored 34 goals during a 42-game season, with Shearer playing in every match and Cole featuring in two games fewer, while Haaland has reached 35 goals after just 31 matches in a 38-game season and still has five more fixtures to increase his tally.

In addition, Haaland has become the first player in English top-flight history to score 35 goals in a single season since Ron Davies found the net 37 times for Southampton back in the 1966-67 campaign.

Furthermore, City's No.9 has equalled Thierry Henry's record for the most home goals scored in a Premier League season, with his latest strike against West Ham his 22nd in just 16 league games at the Etihad Stadium.

Haaland, who was given a guard of honour by his teammates after the match, now has a remarkable 51 goals to his name in just 44 appearances across all tournaments this season, and he remains in with a shout of breaking an all-time goalscoring record held by Dixie Dean.

Indeed, Dean scored 63 goals in 41 games for Everton back in the 1927-28 season, and Haaland still has a minimum of eight fixtures across all competitions to match or better that tally.

Man City are next in action when they welcome Sam Allardyce's Leeds United to the Etihad on Saturday afternoon.
