Manchester City vs. Real Madrid head-to-head record

Sports Mole looks at the head-to-head record between Manchester City and Real Madrid ahead of their meeting in the Champions League.

Manchester City will welcome Real Madrid to the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday evening for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.

The Premier League champions dispatched Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals of the competition, while Real Madrid overcame Chelsea to progress to the final four once again.

Man City will be aiming to secure a first-leg advantage ahead of the return fixture in Madrid on May 4, and it could be an all-English or all-Spanish final this year, with Liverpool and Villarreal set to lock horns in the competition's second semi-final.

Here, Sports Mole takes a closer look at the overall head-to-head record between the two sides ahead of their clash in Manchester.

In all, the two teams have locked horns on six previous occasions, with Man City recording two wins, Real Madrid triumphing twice and the other two fixtures finishing all square.

Their first meeting came in the group stage of the 2012-13 Champions League, with Real Madrid winning 3-2 at Bernabeu before the points were shared in the return fixture in Manchester two months later.

The pair next locked horns in the semi-finals of the 2015-16 competition; the first leg finished goalless at the Etihad Stadium before Los Blancos won the second leg 1-0 at Bernabeu courtesy of an own goal from Fernando.

The two sides last met in the last-16 stage of the 2019-20 competition; Man City won the first leg 2-1 in Madrid before finishing the job in August 2020, recording a 2-1 victory to secure a 4-2 aggregate success.

At the Etihad Stadium, Man City are unbeaten against Real Madrid, winning one and drawing two of their matches versus the most successful side in the history of the European Cup, and the fact that they beat Los Blancos in Manchester 2-1 last time out should mean that confidence is high in the camp.

Overall record:

Man City - two wins
Real Madrid - two wins
Draw - twice
