Craig Disley scores winner for Grimsby Town

Craig Disley scores the winner as Grimsby Town beat Forest Green Rovers 2-1 in the Conference Premier.

Craig Disley scored the winner for Grimsby Town as they secured a 2-1 win over Forest Green Rovers in the Conference Premier this evening.

Lenell John-Lewis came close to giving the home side the lead 20 minutes in when Jon Parkin gave away a free kick, but his strike from out wide was well saved.

The striker found the target a couple of minutes later though when Nathan Arnold played the through-ball for John-Lewis, leaving him with a simple finish from just a couple of yards out.

James Norwood could have equalised just after the half-hour mark for the visitors, but his right-footed effort could not get the better of the keeper.

Forest Green continued to see plenty of the ball at the start of the second half as they continued to push to get back on level terms, but Parkin had his finish saved.

Their persistence paid off though as Chris Stokes rifled the ball into the top corner with a long-range effort with just over an hour on the clock.

It took Grimsby just over 10 minutes to edge back ahead as Jon-Paul Pittman found Disley, who drilled the ball in low to put the hosts ahead.

There were further chances for Norwood and Parkin late on, but neither managed to get their efforts on target.

The result keeps Grimsby in the playoff places, moving them up to fourth, while Forest Green miss out on the chance to climb up the table.
