Bristol City close in on automatic promotion with Swindon Town win

Bristol City take a huge step towards automatic promotion from League One with a 3-0 win over promotion rivals Swindon Town at Ashton Gate.

Bristol City took a huge step towards automatic promotion with a 3-0 win over rivals Swindon Town at Ashton Gate this evening.

Goals from Kieran Agard, Joe Bryan and Aaron Wilbraham gave the home side the points to extend their advantage at the top of League One to eight points.

Agard opened the scoring on 19 minutes when he raced on to a through-ball from Bryan before calmly finishing.

The league leaders extended their advantage when Bryan curled home with 10 minutes remaining to put them in command.

Wilbraham made the result safe with three minutes of normal time left at Ashton Gate when he dispatched a cut-back from Luke Freeman.

The result leaves Steve Cotterill's side 13 points clear of third-placed MK Dons with five games left to play for the leaders.
