Barnsley hopeful of David Flitcroft stay

Barnsley director Don Rowing is hopeful that manager David Flitcroft will remain at Oakwell after the club retained its Championship status.

Barnsley director Don Rowing has admitted that he would be disappointed if manager David Flitcroft did not remain at the club.

Flitcroft's deal at Oakwell expired at the end of the season, but after keeping the club in the Championship, Rowing has been encouraged by the signs that he has received from the club's boss.

Rowing told BBC Radio Sheffield: "He's spoken with us and hopefully it won't be too long until he puts pen to paper.

"It takes time to get these contracts together and there are other issues we have to address. I think a fortnight would be a realistic timeframe.

"He knows what he wants and he's already said that he wants to keep the bulk of the team together, someone who didn't want the job wouldn't do that. I would be very disappointed if he did not take the job."

The 39-year-old won nine out of his 20 matches in charge since taking over at the club in January.
