Aston Villa boss Remi Garde: 'We need to build on first victory in 19 games'

Aston Villa boss Remi Garde says that his team must not be "too happy too long" after claiming their first win in 19 games.

Aston Villa manager Remi Garde has claimed that he and his players "cannot be too happy too long" following their first win in 19 games.

The Frenchman, who took over as boss in November, has celebrated his first victory at Villa in the form of a 1-0 triumph over Crystal Palace this evening.

The Midlands outfit were given a slice of luck when Joleon Lescott's header crept through the legs of goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey.

Garde, though, has urged his players not to rest on the win, but to push on in a bid to retain their Premier League status.

"We suffered so much in the previous weeks and today we are very happy," BBC Sport quotes Garde as saying. "Definitely the players showed pride and we deserved to win.

"We won only 1-0 but we created many good opportunities. We earned our luck by being very aggressive on the ball. We didn't sit back after we scored, we tried to score a second. We had a very good attitude.

"It was a nice feeling to feel the crowd behind the players, it's very important. We cannot be happy too long - we have to build on this one."

Villa remain at the bottom of the league table, eight points from safety.
