Last year's runner-up Rafael Nadal has begun his challenge at the Sony Ericsson Open with a straight-sets annihilation of Santiago Giraldo.
The Columbian, ranked 57 in the world, managed only to hold his opening two service games before Nadal won 10 consecutive games to seal the 6-2 6-0 win in 69 minutes.
The Spaniard, who faced a solitary break point midway through the second set, won 86% of points behind his second serve.
Nadal will now face Radek Stepanek in round three after the Czech beat Tommy Haas in 6-4 6-4.
