Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has said that he is "delighted" for his players after they picked up their first win of the season.
The Black Cats ran out 4-0 winners against Stoke City at the Stadium of Light, with goals from Titus Bramble, Craig Gardner and Sebastian Larsson as well as a Jonathan Woodgate own goal.
"I'm delighted for all of the players. I'm not going to pick out individuals - it was a good team performance and a one that we needed," Bruce told Sunderland's official website.
"Overall, I was really happy with our togetherness - the way we competed, the way we didn't wilt.
"There were some big performances from individuals and we've now seen glimpses of what the team is about."
The three points lift Sunderland up to 12th place in the Premier League table, while Stoke City edge down to fifth.
