Manchester United may reportedly look to sign a new striker on loan during the January transfer window.

Manchester United may reportedly look to secure a loan deal for a new striker during the January transfer window.

Ruben Amorim is currently preparing to complete his switch to Old Trafford, the Portuguese due to start work with the Premier League giants on Monday.

The departing Sporting Lisbon head coach is tasked with kick-starting United's campaign with the Red Devils under pressure to remain in the hunt for a top-seven place in the short term.

However, ahead of Sunday's showdown with Leicester City, United possess the third-worst attacking record in the division, an obvious area of the pitch which requires improvement.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have netted just two goals between them, while only Alejandro Garnacho has netted more than once in the top flight during 2024-25.

As a result, the addition of a striker in January is a realistic possibility, United potentially entertaining negotiations regarding a potential deal for Viktor Gyokeres.

PSG forward a possible addition?

That said, given the price of the Sweden international, it may be more plausible for United to try to strengthen with a short-term addition.

According to TBRfootball, Paris Saint-Germain are open to the possibility of allowing Randal Kolo Muani to go out on loan.

The 25-year-old has been restricted to two starts and 10 substitute outings in Ligue 1 and the Champions League during 2024-25.

Despite having not netted for PSG since September 1, Kolo Muani remains a regular for France and scored twice in the recent UEFA Nations League triumph in Belgium.

Although Kolo Muani remains as a strong squad option, it is suggested that PSG are ready to reduce their outgoings by allowing him to move elsewhere on a temporary basis.

Would United face competition?

United are likely to remain in two minds over a deal unless they can find a home for Zirkzee during the second half of the season, with the Dutchman under pressure to justify his price-tag from the summer.

The report adds that Manchester City, Arsenal and West Ham United are also contemplating whether they should make a move for Kolo Muani.

Both City and the Gunners could benefit from adding another central striker to their ranks, the former requiring backup to Erling Haaland and the latter not possessing a traditional number nine in their squad.

West Ham remain the obvious outsiders courtesy of their lack of European football and indifferent start to the season under Julen Lopetegui.
