Micky Mellon feeling confident ahead of Southend United trip

Shrewsbury Town boss Micky Mellon acknowledges that his side face a "tough game" when they tackle Southend United, but is confident of getting the job done.

Micky Mellon has declared that Shrewsbury Town will head to Southend United "full of confidence" on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues were finally able to get off the mark last time out following five games without a win.

Mellon is hoping his side can push on from that maiden triumph over Barnsley, but has conceded that his men are in for a difficult test against another recently-promoted outfit in Southend.

"It will be a tough game - as they always are at this level - so we'll need to be very well prepared with the right mentality and be ready to fight and give it all we've got to get the right result at a difficult place to pick up points," he told the club's official website.

"They'll be finding their feet just like us because it's a lot tougher than the level we've come from. You have to work a lot harder for your opportunities and make the most of them because there are a lot fewer of them.

"They will be finding that the same of us. We know what they've done before and we've watched them so we know a lot about them. But we'll go there full of confidence and ready to make it a difficult game for them as well."

Southend head into the match one point better off than their opponents, who occupy 18th place in the early league standings.
