Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has admitted that he 'does not understand' why sections of the Bernabeu support are currently booing Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo, 31, has only scored two goals in six La Liga appearances this season and was whistled by a section of the stadium after drawing another blank in Sunday's 2-1 win over Athletic Bilbao.
Zidane, who also received some whistles from the fans at the weekend, has leapt to the defence of Ronaldo - Real Madrid's all-time leading scorer on 368 goals.
"I don't understand the whistles aimed at Cristiano. They also whistled me," Zidane told reporters. "The Santiago Bernabeu is a special place and fans demand a lot. Cristiano is used to it. The important thing is to keep working.
"Maybe Cristiano is not taking his chances now but at least he is getting them. He will end up scoring lots of goals. I am not worried about him not scoring goals."
Real Madrid currently top La Liga on 21 points, having won six and drawn three of their nine league matches this term.
