Andre Gomes has revealed that Portugal teammate Cristiano Ronaldo "congratulated" him on making the move to Barcelona in this summer's transfer window.
The central midfielder completed a move to Camp Nou from Valencia earlier this month off the back of helping Portugal win Euro 2016 in France.
Gomes is believed to have turned down Real Madrid to join Barcelona, but there were no hard feelings from Ronaldo, according to the 22-year-old.
"I talked to Cristiano Ronaldo, he congratulated me and the truth is that I'm happy [he did]," he told TV3. "But now I'll resume being Cristiano's rival as I was before, when I was at Valencia. There are no friendships on the pitch. "I have time to be with him in the national team, but now what I want more than anything is to enjoy [playing alongside] Lionel Messi.
Gomes said it was an "honour and privilege" to join Barcelona after being presented to the media earlier this week.
