Newcastle United's Cheick Tiote: 'I need more discipline on the pitch'

Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote says that he needs to be more disciplined on the pitch following his recent sending-off against Sunderland.

Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote has insisted that he needs to be "more careful" on the pitch and not add to his disciplinary record.

The 26-year-old has averaged a caution in every other game since moving to St James' Park in 2010 and more recently picked up a red card in the Magpies' 1-1 draw with Sunderland last month.

"That sending-off hurt and it has been difficult to forget about it and move on," said Tiote.

"I know that I have picked up too many yellow cards and need to be a lot more careful. I don't need the manager to tell me that. I cannot change my style of play, but it will get better."

Tiote is currently serving a three-match domestic ban.
