Montpellier president plays down title chances

Louis Nicollin says that Paris Saint-Germain's squad is "10 times stronger" than Montpellier's.

Montpellier HSC president Louis Nicollin has said that it would be a "catastrophe" for Paris Saint-Germain if they did not win the league.

La Pallaide, who have never won the French title, currently lead Les Parisiens by two points with five Ligue 1 games remaining.

The 68-year-old has attempted to deflect some of the pressure that is mounting on his squad by stating his belief that Carlo Ancelotti's men are "10 times stronger".

Nicollin also declared himself delighted with the fact that Rene Girard looks set to guide Montpellier to a top-three finish.

"We're almost certain of finishing at least in third, which is magnificent," said Nicollin. "Maybe we'll play in the third qualifying round [of the Champions League].

"Could we do better? Stop dreaming. The title? Don't be daft! Paris are 10 times stronger than us.

"They made that obvious against Sochaux. If they don't end the season as champions, it will be an absolute catastrophe for them."

Montpellier travel to Toulouse on Friday.
