Mathieu Debuchy: 'Arsene Wenger blocked loan move to Manchester United'

Mathieu Debuchy reveals that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger blocked his proposed loan move to Manchester United.

Mathieu Debuchy has revealed that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger prevented him from joining Manchester United on loan in January.

Two weeks ago the full-back signed for Bordeaux on a loan deal until the end of the season, but he has confirmed that United made a late approach.

Debuchy, who struggled for game time at the Emirates due to Hector Bellerin's form, has admitted that he was "disappointed" not to have had the chance to join United.

"Yes, at the end of the transfer window [United] came in," Debuchy told Canal +."They contacted my agents. I was disappointed, obviously. If I had the chance to go to Manchester United it would have been magnificent.

"Unfortunately it wasn't the case. I discussed it with the coach too, who said that obviously he couldn't help out a rival.

"Yes, I'm a little bit annoyed with him [for not playing me]. It's his choice. I came back well this summer, I had a good pre-season. I was able to talk to him to know my future at Arsenal. He said that I would have game time and that we would discuss it in December."

Debuchy was also linked to Aston Villa during the winter window.
