Alex Ferguson has admitted that Manchester United "threw the game away" as Swiss club Basel forced a 3-3 draw at Old Trafford last night (Tuesday).
Danny Welbeck bagged two goals for United, but Basel gave the Red Devils a shock with three goals in the second half, before Ashley Young levelled in the dying minutes of the game.
"We were careless, a lack of concentration killed us," Ferguson said after the match. "We threw the game away. It was a good performance in the first half but we were left grappling to get a result.
"It's a wake-up call losing three goals at home. The defenders and midfielders have to be better than that."
United are now third in their Champions League group, behind Basel and Benfica.
