Pep Guardiola claims that Jadon Sancho did not want to 'challenge himself' at Manchester City after opting to make the switch to Borussia Dortmund.

Pep Guardiola has suggested that Jadon Sancho was 'not prepared to challenge himself' at Manchester City.

Sancho spent time in the academy system at the Premier League giants, but the youngster opted to make the switch to Borussia Dortmund rather than pen a new contract at the Etihad Stadium.

The 18-year-old has gone on to become a huge success at the German outfit, but Guardiola has hinted that the England international may have got first-team opportunities during the current campaign if he had remained in Manchester.

Guardiola is quoted as saying by the London Evening Standard: "He didn't want to take this challenge, this opportunity to discover if he was able to. He decided to go there. So it's perfect.

"It's going well and congratulations on what he is doing. He is doing an incredible performance. He did incredibly well this season. What would have happened this season [at Manchester City]? I don't know."

Sancho has netted 10 goals from 30 starts and 16 substitute outings since moving to Dortmund in August 2017.
