Wayne Rooney is reportedly close to being named as the new manager of Derby County.
The Rams have endured a disappointing start to the campaign, losing five of their opening six matches to sit 22nd in the Championship.
Current head coach Philip Cocu will remain in charge of the East Midlands outfit for the derby showdown with Nottingham Forest on Friday evening.
However, according to the Daily Mail, another defeat will result in the Dutchman being replaced in the dugout by Rooney, who would become player-manager at Pride Park.
Even if Derby get back to winning ways, the report suggests that discussions have already taken place regarding a potential pay-off for Cocu.
The former midfielder still has just under three years remaining on his contract, leaving Derby owner Mel Morris facing the prospect of shelling out a significant amount of money to make the change.
