Former Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt claims that he never spoke to Chelsea before joining Bayern Munich in the summer.

Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt has addressed rumours that linked him with a move to Chelsea in the summer.

The Dutchman completed a transfer from Juventus to Bayern in the summer, and he has gone on to make 18 appearances for the German club this season, chipping in with one goal.

Before he joined the Bundesliga champions, De Ligt was believed to be attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs, including Chelsea.

However, the Netherlands centre-back has claimed that he never spoke to Chelsea about a possible move to Stamford Bridge.

As quoted by Fabrizio Romano, the 23-year-old said: "It's amazing, I'm having a really nice time at Bayern. I feel already at home.

"Chelsea interest last summer? I didn't speak to them. It wasn't close with me but maybe it was with the clubs. I didn't speak to Chelsea] this summer."

After starting the Netherlands' opening World Cup game against Senegal, De Ligt has only played one minute across the last three matches.

Louis van Gaal's side are currently preparing to face Argentina in the World Cup quarter-finals on Friday.
