Chris Sutton: 'Chelsea were desperately poor against Paris Saint-Germain'

Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton describes Jose Mourinho's side's performance in their Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain as "desperately poor".

Chris Sutton has described Chelsea's performance as "desperately poor" in their Champions League tie against Paris Saint-Germain.

The former Blues striker added that the Stamford Bridge outfit's domestic dominance "tells you a lot about the Premier League".

Chelsea were knocked out in midweek by the French giants, who went through to the quarter-finals of the competition on away goals.

Sutton told BBC Sport: "Jose Mourinho can't get away from the fact that Chelsea were desperately poor in the two games against Paris Saint-Germain. They were timid, they lacked energy and they didn't deserve to get anything out of the game, against 10 men.

"And yet they are the best team in this country, which tells you a lot about the Premier League. Performance-wise Chelsea aren't doing well at the moment."

Chelsea are five points ahead of second-placed Manchester City at the summit of the Premier League, with two games in hand.
