Jose Mourinho: 'I care about England team'

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho insists that he "cares" about the England national team amidst increasing scrutiny over the state of football in the country.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has insisted that he "cares" about the England team and wants them to do well.

The structure of English football has come under increased scrutiny over the last few weeks, with FA chairman Greg Dyke publicly criticising the state of the game in England and outlining a plan for the future.

Mourinho confirmed that he would like to work with Dyke in helping English football solve its problems, and revealed that the only team that he supports more than England is his native Portugal.

"I care, I care. I want my players to be selected, to give everything for the national team. I would never say to a player with a small injury don't go, stay here, forget the national team," Mourinho told PA.

"When the telephone rings and it is somebody connected with the national team I pick up the phone with pleasure. I want to help my academy. I want to support them. I want to give my little contribution to improve everything there to try to bring English players to the top. I care, I care a lot.

"The only match I want England to lose is England vs. Portugal. All the other matches I want them to succeed. I have three players there at the time but if I can have four, five or six I would like to have four, five or six."

Mourinho's Chelsea side will travel to Goodison Park to face Everton tomorrow as they look to continue their unbeaten start to the new Premier League season.
