John Terry: 'We failed to kill Sporting Lisbon game off'

Chelsea captain John Terry admits that his side failed to 'kill off' Sporting Lisbon after beating the Portuguese giants 1-0 in this evening's Champions League match.

Chelsea captain John Terry has bemoaned his side's inability to 'kill off' Sporting Lisbon, despite securing a 1-0 win against the Portuguese outfit in this evening's Champions League Group G clash at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

Nemanja Matic's 34th-minute goal was enough to secure all three points for the Blues, but they wasted a multitude of chances to increase the scoreline.

Terry told Sky Sports News after the game: "Sporting are a good side and it was a big night for them. We had so many chances to kill it off, but it was just one of those nights where it didn't quite go in for us.

"We had to come here and win tonight and we got it. It puts us top of the group and in control again."

Chelsea top the group on four points, two in front of Maribor and Schalke 04.
