Michael Ballack tipping Chelsea for Champions League glory

Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack can see no reason why the Blues cannot win the Champions League this season.

Michael Ballack has backed former club Chelsea to go all the way and win the Champions League this season.

The Blues thumped Schalke 5-0 in Germany last night for a victory that saw them qualify for the last 16 - and preserve their unbeaten run in all competitions this season.

"I cannot yet see any weak links, they are really solid and if you judge them after the game today, they can win it," Ballack, who spent four years at Stamford Bridge, told Sky Sports News.

"And if you judge them after the whole season, then they can win it too!

"But it was not the right opponent today, and they know it too, and Mourinho is too experienced to get too euphoric."

Playmaker Cesc Fabregas acknowledged that it was a "brilliant" performance in Gelsenkirchen, but moved to quell suggestions that the West Londoners can win the tournament.
