Scans reveal Burnley striker Charlie Austin's injury is not as bad as first feared.

Charlie Austin has given Burnley manager Eddie Howe an injury boost after scans showed his injury is not as bad as first feared.

The former Swindon forward was stretchered off in the Clarets' 2-1 defeat against Leeds on Saturday with what looked like a dislocated shoulder.

Austin suffered a similar injury which ended his last campaign prematurely, but X-rays have revealed there is no fracture to the joint.

"Charlie has seen a specialist and it appears to be good news; certainly as good as we could have hoped for," said Howe.

"He will have a further scan at the end of the week and we'll know more then, but we're hopeful to have him back in action much sooner than we feared."

Burnley face Birmingham in Championship action tomorrow night.
