Former Hamburg winger Romeo Castelen has joined Championship outfit Birmingham City on trial in a bid to win a contract.
The 29-year-old will play for the club's development squad on Tuesday before training for the rest of the week with Lee Clark's side.
The Dutchman spent a period with Middlesbrough in the summer and although Tony Mowbray admitted his fondness for the player, a move failed to materialise.
A number of Championship clubs are also understood to be monitoring proceedings.
