Osasuna edge out Real Betis

Osasuna record successive wins for the first time this season after securing a 2-1 victory over Real Betis in Seville.

Osasuna have recorded back-to-back victories in the Primera Division for the first time this season with a 2-1 win over Real Betis at Estadio Benito Villamarin today.

The visitors, who won 1-0 at home against Espanyol last weekend, followed up that triumph with another three points - despite both sides finishing with 10 men after red cards for Nono and Andres Fernandez.

Coach Javi Gracia watched on from the dugout as his troops secured the perfect start through Roberto Torres, who moved into Betis's area unmarked before converting Marc Bertran's cross after just two minutes.

It could have been 2-0 to the away side just before the half-hour mark when Miguel de las Cuevas curled his effort narrowly wide of the mark from inside the box.

Things went from bad to worse for the hosts on 38 minutes as Nono received a second yellow card for a foul on Oriol Riera, before Gracia's men capitalised on their numerical advantage after Jordi Figueras converted De las Cuevas's low cross into his own net.

Osasuna offered their Seville counterparts a route back into the contest after goalkeeper Fernandez was red-carded for bringing down Ruben Castro inside the area.

However, the 32-year-old fluffed his lines from 12 yards and saw his penalty crash off the frame of the goal.

Betis did reduce the deficit with 10 minutes remaining through Jorge Molina, who poked home Chuli's cross to give Juan Carlos Garrido's men a fighting chance, but the visitors held on to move up to 12th in Spain's top flight.
