Koke: 'Third is the minimum requirement'

Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke admits that while he wants to win the La Liga title this season, third place is the team's initial target.

Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke has admitted that his team's target is to finish third in La Liga this season.

Diego Simeone's side lifted the Spanish title at the end of the 2013-14 season, but finished 16 points behind last season's victors Barcelona.

Atletico were only two points above fifth-place Sevilla last term, and Koke has said that third is once again the expectation.

"Our league is Sevilla, Valencia and Villarreal and we have to as a minimum get third. That's our objective. We all want to be champions but first we try to be third and whatever else comes will be welcome," Marca quotes Koke as saying.

Atletico opened their new La Liga season with a 1-0 win over Las Palmas at the weekend. Their next match is away to Sevilla on Sunday.
