Manchester United's 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon has led to Erik ten Hag matching an unwanted record held by David Moyes.

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has matched an unwanted run of form that was also recorded by David Moyes.

On Sunday, the Red Devils went into their Premier League encounter with Tottenham Hotspur looking to record their third successive clean sheet in the top flight.

Instead, United were on the receiving end of a 3-0 scoreline, conceding an early goal and never recovering as they were comprehensively outplayed by the North Londoners.

Although the dismissal of Bruno Fernandes just before half time was contentious, the Red Devils had been fortunate to only be 2-0 adrift at the time.

As a result of their second 3-0 Premier League home defeat in a row, United now sit in 12th position in the Premier League table after six matches.

What Moyes record has Ten Hag matched?

Ten Hag has publicly admitted that United had again underperformed at Old Trafford, the first goal having similarities to the equaliser that FC Twente scored in the Europa League earlier in the week.

There is also speculation as to whether Ten Hag will be allowed to stay in the United dugout, a consequence of just three wins coming from nine matches in all competitions during 2024-25.

To make matters worse for the Dutchman, United have started the Premier League campaign in the same manner in which David Moyes did back in 2013-14.

Moyes, who was in his first season having replaced Sir Alex Ferguson, also accumulated just seven points from six games with two victories, one draw and three defeats.

Although Moyes would ultimately last 51 fixtures during that season, he was sacked in April and did not even last a full season.

On the flip side, however, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also only accumulated seven points in 2020-21 before leading United to a second-placed finish.

What next for United and Ten Hag?

With no developments with Ten Hag's future likely to occur a week before an international break, focus now turns to two testing away trips in different competitions.

On Thursday evening, United square off against Porto in the Europa League, the contest with the Portuguese giants increasingly important given the 1-1 draw with FC Twente in their opening fixture.

Although United will back themselves to earn at least a playoff spot with a finish between ninth and 24th position, starting an eight-game league phase without a win would leave them on the back foot for the top eight and a guaranteed last-16 place.

Three days later, United make the trip to the West Midlands to face a free-scoring Aston Villa outfit who are six points ahead of them in the Premier League.
