Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker: 'We can learn from Chelsea'

Per Mertesacker says that Arsenal can learn consistency from Chelsea following the Blues' Premier League-winning campaign last season.

Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has claimed that he and his teammates can take tips from Premier League rivals Chelsea.

The Gunners finished 12 points behind eventual champions Chelsea last season.

On Sunday, the London rivals will go head to head in the Community Shield at Wembley, before kicking off their seasons the following weekend.

"We haven't played Chelsea at Wembley in such a situation for a long time," Mertesacker told Arsenal's official website. "They played really well last season, they were really consistent and always defended well from the front.

"I think if we can learn something from Chelsea, it's to be consistent over the whole season. You need to be consistent, especially in the league."

Arsene Wenger's side will begin the season against West Ham United at the Emirates on August 9.
