Massimiliano Allegri: 'AC Milan can finish in top three'

AC Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri believes his side can still finish in the top three this season despite their poor start.

AC Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri has claimed that it is possible for his side to finish in the top three this season.

Milan are currently in seventh place in Serie A after a poor start, winning just nine of their opening 19 games.

However, Allegri believes that there is still a chance for his side to rescue their season as they are still "in touch" with the top teams.

"It wouldn't be a miracle for us to get into third place," said Allegri. "We'll need to get an average of two points a game to reach 70 points but it will also depend on many other things.

"It won't be easy to maintain that average and tomorrow we have a chance to start the second half of the season well and turn around the poor start that we had.

"We have to respect the teams ahead of us who have spent a lot of money. That we are still in touch with those teams shows that we're not doing as badly as some want to believe."

Milan travel to Sampdoria for their league encounter tomorrow evening.
