Scottish Premiership roundup: Aberdeen win 2-0 to go top of the league

Sports Mole rounds up New Years Day's results in the Scottish Premiership as Aberdeen go top of the league after beating St Johnstone.

Aberdeen have gone to the top of the Scottish Premiership, after a 2-0 victory at home to St Johnstone gave them their sixth consecutive league win.

David Goodwillie's acrobatic strike in the sixth minute gave the hosts an early lead as the Dons dominated, but they had to wait until stoppage time to score a second when Cameron Smith drilled home a left-footed shot from close range.

Hamilton Academical thrashed Motherwell 5-0 at home, and they also took an early lead through Dougie Imrie's low shot, before Ali Crawford's close-range effort doubled it before half time.

Second-half goals from Mickael Antoine-Curier, Tony Andreu and Daniel Redmond completed the rout for the home side.

Two penalties from Alexei Eremenko and Craig Slater, who was later given a red card, helped Kilmarnock win 2-1 away at St Mirren, who also had Kenny McLean sent off.

While, Inverness Caledonian Thistle put their recent run of three defeats behind them, after an Aaron Doran double helped them to a 3-1 win away at bottom side Ross County.

Jackson Irvine pulled a goal back for the hosts but a Billy McKay strike ended any hopes of a comeback and secured three points for the visitors.
