Head coach Gary O'Neil suggests that he expects Sasa Kalajdzic to remain at Wolverhampton Wanderers, despite speculation regarding his future.

Gary O'Neil has suggested that forward Sasa Kalajdzic could remain at Wolverhampton Wanderers for the remainder of the season.

The West Midlands outfit have enjoyed a solid first half to the season, accumulating 28 points and scoring 30 goals from their 20 matches in the Premier League.

As a result, Wolves sit in 11th spot and just three points adrift of seventh-placed Brighton & Hove Albion, who they play next, but the form of their front three has led to some squad members being left without regular game time.

Fabio Silva has already departed Molineux to link up with Rangers on loan, and speculation persists that Kalajdzic could follow the Portuguese out of the exit door.

Reports have claimed that a number of German clubs, most notably Eintracht Frankfurt, are interested in securing a loan deal for the Austria international.

Despite scoring winning goals against Everton and Bournemouth earlier in the season, Kalajdzic has been restricted to just 159 minutes of football in the top flight and is keen to earn more action ahead of Euro 2024.

However, speaking to reporters at a press conference on Thursday, O'Neil hinted that the striker may see out the campaign at Wolves.

The Englishman said: "There has been interest in Sasa Kalajdzic but we've got a big game tomorrow. He's involved in the game tomorrow.

"He's with us. He's committed to being with us. He's working hard. If we can free up some funds we will being players in."

Kalajdzic is one of three players - the others being Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Pedro Neto - who are competing to replace Hwang Hee-Chan, who is on international duty with South Korea at the Asia Cup, in the starting lineup against Brentford in the FA Cup third round on Friday night.

Earlier in the media briefing, O'Neil spoke about the January transfer window in general, adding: "January is a tough month to do transfers, teams don't want to lose players. Summer is a better window. January is a tricky transfer market.

"The financial restrictions we had in the summer are firmly in place. We're working hard to improve the group. I knew where it was at the start, it's no surprise to me. Zero complaints from me.

"We get the best out of what we've got, we will try to improve. It's a tricky month already, it'll be tough to improve the group."

After the showdown with Brentford, Wolves are not back in action for another 17 days when they face Brighton at the Amex Stadium on January 22.
