PSV's attacking midfielder Adam Maher missed the best chance of the opening period as he put a free header wide with Wolfsburg keeper Diego Benaglio stranded, in a first half which ended goalless.
Bas Dost opened the scoring immediately after the second half began as he pounced on the rebound after Jeroen Zoet had saved Joshua Guilavogui's effort.

Another Zoet save led to Wolfsburg picking up the loose ball before finding Max Kruse in the box, who glided a glancing header past the PSV keeper.
Luuk de Jong headed Luciano Narsingh's 77th-minute cross straight at Benaglio as Philip Cocu's side attempted to get back into the tie.
Kruse missed the opportunity to double his tally for the night, firing over after substitute Vierinha had provided a pinpoint cross.

Benaglio conceded a late penalty as he charged down PSV substitute Jurgen Locadia down in the box.
The Wolfsburg captain made amends by diving to his right, keeping out Locadia's spot kick and ensuring that his team took all three points.
Dieter Hecking's outfit move to the top of Group B, level on points with Manchester United but one goal ahead of the English side.
