Ryan Giggs confirms Wayne Rooney is a doubt to face Sunderland

Manchester United's Ryan Giggs confirms that Wayne Rooney is a doubt for Saturday's match against Sunderland due to illness and a tight groin.

Manchester United interim manager Ryan Giggs has confirmed that Wayne Rooney could miss Saturday's match against Sunderland.

Reports emerged overnight claiming that the England international would undergo a scan today after allegedly limping out of training this week.

However, Giggs confirmed to reporters in Friday's press conference that Rooney has been suffering with a stomach bug and a tight groin.

The Welshman said: "Wayne being Wayne, he wants to play and wants to be involved, so we'll monitor it over the next 24 hours."

Giggs will take charge of United's three remaining games, but is expected to be replaced by Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal in the summer.
