Liverpool do not intend to make a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara until the very end of the transfer window, according to a report.

Liverpool will reportedly hold off until the final week of the summer transfer window before making an official offer for Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

The Reds remain the strong favourites to sign the Spain international, despite bitter Premier League rivals Manchester United supposedly showing a late interest.

However, Bayern have yet to receive any formal bids for the 29-year-old and have publicly warned clubs that they may not engage in business in the closing stages of the window.

According to talkSPORT, though, Liverpool's plan is to wait another couple of weeks due to uncertainty over fellow midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum's future.

Wijnaldum is believed to be a target for his ex-Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman at Barcelona, potentially leaving the English champions with a hole to plug.

Liverpool are said to be unwilling to pay the £27m Bayern are asking for, however, believing that the fee should be lower for a player that is out of contract next year.
