Alan Shearer believes that Glenn Hoddle should be considered a realistic consider to become England manager on a temporary basis.

Alan Shearer believes that Glenn Hoddle should be considered a realistic contender to be the man to lead England at Euro 2012 later this year.

Meanwhile, former England striker Shearer, who skippered his country during Hoddle's first stint in charge of the Three Lions, is adamant that Harry Redknapp should given the job.

However, if Redknapp opts to remain with Tottenham Hotspur, Shearer believes that Hoddle is more than capable of taking the role on a temporary basis.

"I think there is only one man for the job - Harry," said Shearer. "[But Hoddle's] coaching was excellent and he had a decent record.

"Why shouldn't he be? He was successful when he was England manager.

"On the pitch everyone liked him. He gave me the England captaincy so I thought he was fantastic!"

Hoddle, who managed England for three years up until 1999, yesterday admitted that he is eager to be given a second opportunity by the Football Association.
