Former referee Graham Poll calls on Mark Clattenburg to sue Chelsea

Former referee Graham Poll believes that Mark Clattenburg should sue Chelsea after the club wrongly accused him of racially abusing John Obi Mikel.

Former referee Graham Poll believes that match official Mark Clattenburg should sue Chelsea after they wrongly accused him of racially abusing midfielder John Obi Mikel.

The 37-year-old was alleged to have used "inappropriate language" towards the Nigeria international last month but following an investigation by the Football Association, Clattenburg was cleared.

"If I was him I would sue them. He won't though because he'll want to put it behind him," Poll told BBC Radio Five Live.

"That's why players/clubs get away with it because referees are discouraged from taking action. I'd like to see him sue for defamation of character and whatever payout he gets donate to charity."

Chelsea released a statement yesterday saying that they "regret" the incident.
