Frank Lampard accepts squad rotation

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard accepts that he won't play every game for the club during the remainder of the season, but hopes to maintain a semi-regular berth.

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has accepted that he may not start every game under interim manager Rafael Benitez.

Benitez became notorious for his squad rotation policy during his time in charge of Liverpool and, with a plethora of midfield options available to him and rumours surrounding Lampard's future at the club, the England international is expected to miss out on a number of matches.

Lampard accepts this, but did admit that playing regularly gives him more confidence, which he believes will lead to more goals.

"There is a squad and you must respect that, but I do feel when I get comfortable, fit and playing, and you are in the team consistently, you get confidence and when I'm confident I score goals," he told ChelseaTV.

"The manager, to be fair, has played me since I've been fit generally. I played the back end of last season as a holding midfielder but having David Luiz there gives me a bit more freedom to get in there and cause trouble where I can.

"And I do feel with the quality in front of me - Fernando (Torres), Eden (Hazard), Juan (Mata), Oscar, Victor (Moses), Ramires when he runs with it - if you get up there with them you will get chances."

Lampard is currently just 10 goals away from Bobby Tambling's all-time Chelsea record of 202 goals for the club.
