Burnley held by Nottingham Forest

Burnley are held to a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground in the Championship.

Nottingham Forest have held Championship leaders Burnley to a 1-1 draw at the City Ground.

Sam Vokes fired the visitors into the lead from the penalty spot on 28 minutes, before the hosts hit back through Simon Cox 14 minutes later as both teams struggled in their attempts to find a winner for the remainder of the clash.

The Clarets found themselves fortunate to be level after 20 minutes, as Henri Lansbury saw his curling free kick cannon off the crossbar, before Cox headed over from six yards out.

Billy Davies's men monopolised possession but, despite the territorial dominance, the visitors took the lead against the run of play.

Gonzalo Jara was adjudged to have handled Kieran Trippier's cross inside the area, before Vokes stepped up and confidently dispatched the penalty to bag his 10th of the season.

Cox, who had earlier spurned a gilt-edged chance, soon made amends for the missed opportunity. The Republic of Ireland international could not miss this time, as the striker rose highest from Jamie Paterson's teasing cross to head home the equaliser from one yard out.

Sean Dyche's men nearly re-established the lead shortly after the interval, as Danny Ings teed up Scott Arfield but the 25-year-old's effort whistled wide of the post.

Both sides seemed intent on stealing the points with 10 minutes remaining, with Jamie Mackey stinging the gloves of Tom Heaton from long range before Karl Darlow denied Arfield's 25-yard effort, but ultimately both managers were forced to settle for a share of the spoils.

Leicester City's victory means that Burnley remain at the summit of England's second tier on goal difference.
