Brentford poised to make Dean Smith appointment?

Brentford are reportedly close to finalising a deal to bring Walsall boss Dean Smith to Griffin Park as the successor to Marinus Dijkhuizen.

Walsall manager Dean Smith is poised to take over at Brentford later today after holding successful talks with the club, according to a report.

The Bees, currently being led by Lee Carsley on a temporary basis, are said to have held formal discussions with the 44-year-old over the weekend.

Smith was earmarked as Brentford's first choice to replace ousted boss Marinus Dijkhuizen, having missed out on Swansea City assistant Pep Clotet who is expected to remain at the Liberty Stadium.

The Telegraph claims that the West London outfit will finalise a move at some stage on Monday, before announcing the appointment of the man who has spent the last four years at Walsall.

Carsley will take charge of this evening's match at Bolton Wanderers, in what is likely to be his final game at the helm before returning to his previous role as development team manager.
