The hosts were dominant in possession from the first whistle, but it was Olympiacos who had the first attempt on goal, as Ruben Pardo dragged an effort wide from distance.

Bayern took the lead on eight minutes when Olympiacos goalkeeper Roberto parried a 20-yard Jerome Boateng strike into the path of Costa, who finished past the Spaniard to give Pep Guardiola's side an early lead.

The Bavarians dominated the half following Costa's goal, and could have added a second moments later as Arjen Robben advanced upfield before teeing up Muller, but the German's effort was deflected away for a corner.

Bayern did manage to add a second goal on 16 minutes, as Kingsley Coman found Lewandowski inside the box, before the Polish striker produced a simple finish into the bottom corner of the net.

The hosts added a third goal just four minutes later when Coman skewed an effort, only for Robben to head the rebound into the path of Muller, who found the net from close range.

Lewandowski had a good chance to add to the lead before the half-hour mark, as the 27-year-old fired wide from an inviting Costa cross, before the Pole picked out Muller inside the penalty area, only for the World Cup winner to scuff his shot off target.

Coman and substitute Joshua Kimmich both missed opportunities to add to the scoreline before half time, while Brown Ideye saw a free kick divert off target following a flick by Luka Milivojevic.
