It is only the second start Messi will make since returning from injury, with Jordi Alba also returning to the starting XI in place of Jeremy Mathieu.

Valencia assistant coach Phil Neville makes five changes to the side that beat Barakaldo 3-1 in the Copa del Rey in midweek, as Aymen Abdennour regains his place in the heart of the defence.

Paco Alcacer and Rodrigo de Paul also return to spearhead the home side's attack, alongside Santi Mina.
