Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Arsenal

Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Wednesday night's EFL Cup tie with Arsenal.

Liverpool play host to Arsenal in the EFL Cup fourth round on Wednesday night looking for their second victory over North London opposition in the space of three days.

Despite conceding an early goal, the Merseyside giants were able to record a 2-1 triumph over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday.

However, while the result kept Liverpool six points clear at the top of the standings, that game will have little significance on the meeting with Arsenal courtesy of Jurgen Klopp changing the majority of his starting lineup.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up their latest injury and suspension news ahead of the showdown at Anfield.

Xherdan Shaqiri

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Calf
Possible return date: November 10 (vs. Manchester City)

Despite Klopp suggesting that Shaqiri is not carrying a major calf problem, a return date has not been revealed for the Switzerland international. The winger is not expected to feature in the squad for Wednesday's match.

Mohamed Salah

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: November 2 (vs. Aston Villa)

Despite featuring against Genk and Spurs, Salah continues to carry an issue with his ankle. Given Liverpool's upcoming schedule, the winger is unlikely to be involved against the Gunners.

Joel Matip

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: October 30 (vs. Arsenal)

While Matip was believed to be close to making a return, it has been now suggested that the centre-back could be absent until December.

Virgil van Dijk

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Dead leg
Possible return date: October 30 (vs. Arsenal)

Van Dijk sustained a dead leg during Sunday's game, leaving him as a doubt for the next fixture. While the Netherlands international would likely be risked for a Premier League or Champions League clash, Klopp is expected to rest one of his key men for the EFL Cup.

Nathaniel Clyne

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

The right-back's ACL injury is set to keep him out for the best part of the season, leaving Klopp short of cover for Alexander-Arnold.

LIVERPOOL'S SUSPENSION LIST

Liverpool have no players suspended for this encounter.
