Kenny Jackett targets playoffs with new signings

Kenny Jackett says that he expects his mid-season signings to help push the side into the Championship playoff places.

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Kenny Jackett has said that he expects his glut of mid-season signings to help the club into the Championship playoff places.

The Midlands side have been one of the division's most active clubs in the winter window following the sale of star striker Benik Afobe to Bournemouth and a number of injuries in key positions.

Over the last month, Jackett has brought in strikers Michal Zyro and Joe Mason, as well as defender Mike Williamson, as he looks to close the eight-point gap on the top six.

Speaking to reporters at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday, he said: "We want to improve our team. We want to close the gap between our team and the teams at the top of this league.

"Recruitment is obviously one area where you can do that – it's a key area."

Jackett is hoping to make two more signings - Middlesbrough striker Kike and West Bromwich Albion left-back Sebastian Pocognoli - before tonight's 11pm transfer deadline.
