Wolverhampton Wanderers complete Joe Mason signing

Wolverhampton Wanderers confirm that they have signed Joe Mason from Cardiff City for an undisclosed fee.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed that they have signed Joe Mason from Cardiff City for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old was rumoured to be the subject of a "significant bid" from the Midlands outfit earlier this week after Cardiff had placed a £5m asking price on his head.

Mason joins Wolves on a three-and-a-half-year deal, becoming the club's second January arrival following Will Randall's switch from Swindon Town.

"We are delighted to be bringing Joe to the club. We've looked at him for a while, and particularly back in August, but the deal couldn't get done," Wolves manager Kenny Jackett said in a statement.

"He had a good loan spell at Bolton and he's a natural number 10, plays best just off a striker I think. Getting the right partnership in that area is a key one for us. And since [Benik] Afobe and [Nouha] Dicko have gone out of it for different reasons it's something we're looking to obviously try to improve.

"I think he would be one part of that, and he is a very good addition. I like his work rate, I like his football, and I think he's a natural to play behind the striker in my ideal 4-2-3-1 formation."

Mason joined Cardiff in 2011 and scored against Liverpool in the 2012 League Cup final at Wembley.
