West Bromwich Albion to sign Shola Ameobi on free transfer?

West Bromwich Albion reportedly agree a deal to sign free agent and former Newcastle United forward Shola Ameobi.

West Bromwich Albion are reportedly close to clinching the signing of former Newcastle United forward Shola Ameobi.

The 33-year-old, who called time on his 19-year Newcastle career in 2014, is a free agent after leaving Turkish side Gaziantep.

Baggies boss Tony Pulis has been eager to strengthen his side since being appointed at The Hawthorns, particularly up front.

According to the Daily Mail, a deal has been agreed with Ameobi, who has been identified as the right type of player to help improve West Brom's goal threat.

The forward scored 79 goals in 397 appearances for Newcastle.
