Sunderland 2-0 Morecambe

Sunderland comfortably defeat Morecambe 2-0 in the League Cup, with James McClean scoring twice.

Sunderland ran out comfortable winners against Morecambe in the League Cup this evening, with the result never really in doubt.

Sunderland started strongly and registered several shots inside the first 20 minutes, with Barry Roche tested a few times in the Morecambe goal.

James McClean opened the scoring for the home side as he headed home from an Adam Johnson corner on 24 minutes.

Johnson continued to be a danger on the wing, but Sunderland could not add another as the sides went in at half-time with the score 1-0.

It was the same combination which added the second goal, this time McClean burying the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Sunderland continued to press for a third as Morecambe were unable to get forward to test Kieren Westwood.

However there were to be no more goals as Sunderland took the 2-0 win.
