Mike Ashley, Rangers charged by Scottish Football Association

Rangers and shareholder Mike Ashley are charged by the SFA over a breach of rules relating to dual ownership.

Rangers and shareholder Mike Ashley have been charged by the Scottish Football Association for breaching rules relating to the businessman's dual interest in the club and Newcastle United.

The SFA believes that Ashley has undue influence at the Scottish club, despite owning less that 10% of shares at Ibrox.

Under SFA rules, Ashley would not be allowed to have a say on the running of Rangers due to his ownership of another club - Premier League side Newcastle.

Meanwhile, Rangers are alleged to have misled Scottish football's governing body over the amount of influence that Ashley has since he took an interest in the club at the start of the season.

A hearing into the matter is due to take place on January 27.

It was confirmed on Monday that Rangers boss Ally McCoist had resigned and entered a 12-month notice period.
